"How DSL Internet Access
Works?
"
Digital
Subscriber Line (DSL)
is
a
unique technology where normal
telephone
lines are converted into
Internet
connections.
There
are two types of DSL
connections:
PRO:
In this type of DSL the
data-transmission rate is high,
dedicated
connection and can
send
voice and data in a single
line.
CON:
It requires additional
hardware,
not available
everywhere.
DSL
uses same signal frequencies, which is used for voice or fax. So
without interfering the conversations it can run Internet through the
same telephone line. DSL filter separates data traffic of the Internet
from the voice and fax traffic and runs them individually.
DSL modem
collects information from the connected computer and sends it through
the phone line. At the phone line provider's central office a DSL
Access Multiplexer translates the information. It separates the data
from voice signals and sends it to an ISP. And from there on to the
Internet.
DSL connects computer to the Internet at a high speed of 52 megabytes
per second. It performs better during the download process than the
traditional modem devices. And the most significant advantage is
repeated dial up is not needed for every Internet session. DSL
connections are dedicated. No connection shares bandwidth with other
connections.
