Bananas Health Benefits
Bananas
are the fruit of the banana plant that is 26’ tall. Bananas grow in cluster and are later on divided into groups called ‘hands’, consisting of at most 25 bananas. Bananas are considered to be the natives of Malaysia but today they are cultivated commercially in Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador and Brazil. The banana is elliptical in shape and has creamy firm flesh within, which can be eaten by easily peeling the skin. The two major types of the banana are the sweet banana and the plantain. The sweet banana is normally yellow in colour and can be eaten raw like a fruit while the plantain is green in colour and is eaten like a vegetable, after cooking due to its starchiness.
Bananas
are an excellent source of potassium and fibre that have been shown to protect against diseases like heart disease and high blood pressure and help in healthy bones. Bananas contain ingredients that generate a thicker protective mucus barrier in the stomach and get rid of bacteria inside the stomach. This dual pronged attack offers protection against stomach ulcers. Bananas contain a lot of the soluble fibre pectin that helps digestion and prevents constipation. Research has proved that regular consumption of bananas decreases the risk of kidney cancer.
