Benefits of Lemon Juice

Lemonade is one of the refreshing drinks known since the historical times. Scientific research supports this fact and its essential oil has been shown to cool the body. So you can use the technique of mixing lemon juice with water and sugar when you have fever to reduce the cooling effect.

If the temperature of the body rises either due to the sun or the illness, it is important to drink frequently to avoid dehydration. Sugar should generally be avoided in normal diet. But when taken along with lemon, it has a beneficial role to play. But if available, choose honey over sugar.

Lemon has been used for hundreds of years to prevent scurvy among sailors and travelers due to its high vitamin C composition. The quantity of sodium is negligible, making the fruit an ideal choice for people on a low salt diet.

As the manufacturers of lemons in certain countries coat the fruit with the chemical diphenyl and wax it, to increase its life and better its look, it is safer to wash the lemon with some unscented soap and then rinse thoroughly before juicing it.

The pulp left after juicing is very beneficial for the skin and soothes the bites and stings of insects. Mixing equal parts of toilet water and glycerin to the remnant and then using the mixture to wash hands, will keep them smooth.

The extract of lemon when vaporized, will sterilize the meningococcus, typhoid, pneumococcus and staphylococcus bacteria within 15-180 minutes. Also when the lemon juice is added to raw oysters before eating, will kill 92% of the bacteria within 15 minutes.

Lemon juice is a most vital cure that you can use in all types of respiratory tract infections and also as a general tonic.

As long as you dilute the juice with water, it is safe to take any sensible amount of lemon juice. Always select firm, clear colored lemons that have not started withering. You can see the first signs of withering at the place where there was a stem attached.
