Do bananas give me heartburn

Bananas are one of the healthiest foods for your body and highly recommended by most medical experts for being safe, effective natural cure for heartburn. But in rare instances, bananas may have the contrary effect and lead to heartburn right after consumption.

Bananas are rich in many important nutrients, beneficial for your body and mind. They are rich in potassium, an important mineral for your muscles, inclusive of the heart. Bananas are also the sole fruits containing the whole gamut of B vitamins, essential for appropriate cell production, particularly the nerve cells. Shortage of B vitamins will negatively affect your mood; B vitamins play a vital role in converting carbohydrates into glucose, responsible for providing you with energy. Poor energy ultimately causes moodiness, which normally represents depression. It's important to observe that bananas, rich in all-natural sugars like sucrose, fructose and glucose are the top food option prior to a workout, because of the natural spurt of energy they give. Also bananas are rich in fiber, important for smooth functioning of the digestive system by forcing the difficult to digest foods through to the bowels.

The cause of banana producing heartburn: Heartburn is a painful disorder in which the stomach acid regurgitates back into your oesophagus and produces an uneasy burning feeling in your chest. The signs are normally thought to belong to a heart attack because of the proximity of the tract of the stomach acid to the heart. Some foods, particularly those highly acidic in nature, like fatty foods and chocolate, cause relaxation of the sphincter (a muscle acting as a doorway) between your stomach and esophagus, promoting the deposition of the acid, whiles others like coffee and spicy buffalo wings aggravate your esophagus. A banana works as an antacid by promoting the stomach lining to secrete mucus that acts as a protection against stomach acid. But if a banana isn’t completely ripe (if the green dots are present on the skin or the skin is very yellow) is highly acidic (pH around 5). It also contains starches that haven’t yet become sugar and thus hard to digest and it tastes not very nice. But if a ripe banana causes heartburn, you might be allergic to them, particularly if the heartburn is accompanied by itching and irritation in your mouth. You may also be allergic to latex, which is similar to the protein present in the bananas and is believed to produce allergic reactions. Get yourself examined by an allergy specialist, if it prevents you from eating bananas.

A Natural Heartburn Treatment: Usually, a banana will not create problem. So whenever you suffer from heartburn, go for a banana instead of the antacid tablets. Its natural antacid effects and mood-lifting properties make it a wonderful addition to any diet.
