Espresso Coffee For Coffee Drinkers

has gained more popularity today than in the past to aggressive marketing adopted by coffee giants. Our popular drinks today like lattes, cappuccinos, mochas and machiatos use espresso instead of traditional filter or drip coffee.
But many people are not aware of the meaning of the term espresso. The first sip of an espresso can revile a beginner. An espresso is highly concentrated, and is proffered in a very small cup. But that small cup can easily satiate your love for coffee. You may need some time to get yourself used to the taste, if this cup was your first one. However you will love the taste after some time.
To make an espresso, very hot (not boiling) water is forced into finely ground coffee. This is ground more finely than filter coffee, but not as finely ground as Turkish coffee.
In the olden days, espresso machines used steam pressure to force the water. But with advances in technology, a spring piston lever machine is used. It uses a piston to create the pressure and force the water through the coffee. The temperature should be properly regulated, as too high or low temperature can spoil the drink. The perfect temperature is 85 to 95 degrees Celsius.
In case the water is very hot, the espresso will be very bitter. If very cold water is used, the coffee will be very sour. Hence preparing espresso drinks is a very demanding task and it is important to take proper precautions to get it right. The people who are adept at this task are known as baristas or barman in Italian.
When the water explodes through the coffee, it brings out the taste, oils, sugars and proteins and melts them. This causes a highly potent combination with very strong, yet rich and subtle flavor. The caffeine content is equivalent to that found in a large cup of coffee, thus offering you the same amount of kick.
To enjoy the full flavor of this drink, drink the coffee immediately after it is prepared, not exceeding 2 minutes. If you want to blend it to prepare espresso drinks, it should be done within 10 seconds of pulling the espresso. The reason is that the volatile molecules in the drink responsible for giving it the flavor, degrade quickly after coming in contact with oxygen and the dissipation of the heat.
There are
3 parts to the espresso
: the heart, body and the crema. The crema is the fragile, creamy foam that comes automatically above the drink and denotes the good espresso. Hence it is important to keep it intact. This can be easily done by drinking it in a pre warmed shot glasses, to avoid heat loss.
You can use light or dark roast beans to prepare good espresso, as there are no specific espresso beans. Avoid using very dark roast as it can give you a burnt, charcoal-like taste. But the coffee should be ground properly and the beans freshly roasted.
Like any type of coffee drink, choosing the right blend is vital to preparing espresso drinks. You should focus on sweetness, aromatics and smoothness.
Consider the type of grinder. Ideally, a conical burr grinder is the best. It gives you a constant grind with all the particles of the correct size. It will also prevent the coffee from overheating at the time of grinding and thus protect the aroma.
There are various other factors that should be taken into account while preparing espresso drinks. Hence coffee shops devote a lot of time to train their staff in this art.
