Everyone can lose weight
Barry Nalebuff, an Economics professor at Yale, challenged five overweight women to shed 15 pounds within a certain time limit by following their own methods. He threatened them that should they fail to shed the excess baggage, they would be forced to wear miniscule swim suits and appear on the ABC primetime live. He used the characteristic of the Game Theory which states that immediate result is far worse. As a result all except one woman lost the weight successfully and even the woman, whose weight did not go down significantly, could lose 12 pounds.
He successfully employed Game Theory to instill fear factor in the women to extract their qualities of determination, creativity and capability to achieve their goal. The thought of being shamed in public worked more effectively rather than resorting to diets, pills and other methods. This was a mental game of faith working wonders for the women.
But instead of using fear, you can also achieve weight loss just because you want to do it. Generally, we ignore the implications of obesity that affect over a period of time and concentrate on the life’s problems. When the risks of obesity are not imminent, we tend to ignore the slight bulges and paunches. But after some time, obesity brings its own share of problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis etc. So if you do not control your weight gain in time, you will have to spend more money on the doctor.
The best way to combat obesity is to educate the overweight and obese about the risks associated with their condition.
Starting on a routine of healthy diet, exercise and rest will go a long way in treating your weight problem. You should start when the risks are still far off. By being determined to be fit, you can conquer your weight problems very easily because as they say, “Where there is a will, there is a way.”
