Your pet dog needs to go out and more often than not, he might just return with few fleas on him. Also, in case he interacts with other dogs, fleas might jump on to him in the meanwhile. The best way to prevent fleas from coming on your pet is to avoid his close interaction with stray or unkempt dogs and to avoid his straying off into the wild bushes. Since it is ever so difficult to completely avoid either of the situations, here is a list of products, which you can use by which you can get rid of these parasites.

Many of the pet owners prefer to use a flea collar, which works by killing fleas, which are already present in your pets coat. You need to keep the collar around your pet’s neck for a good amount of the day for it to be effective. However, in case your dog is not used to wearing a collar, there are other alternatives as well.

Fleas sprays and drops are other methods of getting rid of fleas. The problem, but, is to ensure that you use only the prescribed amount of the pesticide as an extra amount of the chemical may do more harm than good. Make sure you read the instructions carefully to avoid any such complications.

Shampoos these days have anti flea chemicals, which can kill fleas over a few applications. For them to effective, you need to keep the shampoo on your pet’s coat for around fifteen minutes during his bath. Also, he has to be bathed on a regular schedule or else the problem may resurface. To enhance the fragrance of your dog’s coat, you can even add rosemary oil in the bathing water.

If none of these efforts bring forth any results, then you must take your pet to the vet. A flea dip is a sure shot procedure to rid him off the fleas. Make sure you read all the instructions that the product leaflet may provide and also look out for complications such as excessive itching or other forms of discomfort that may appear after the application of such chemicals. Remember, a good hygiene of your pet effectively enhances the hygiene of your household as well.
