	Global Positioning System Explained

Tracking system has been in the picture since quite a long time now. However, they haven’t been much sought after except for services like the police who need to monitor their vehicles at all times. However, currently, with the increase in the number of vehicles and many of them buying bigger better and equally more expensive cars, the Vehicle Tracking System is now being thought of as a more common commodity so that people know where exactly their pricey cars are travelling.

A Vehicle Tracking System has basically three components. But before we go there, let us go through the principle behind these devices. Once the vehicle is fitted with a tracking device, it connects to the internet to download the required maps and by a process known as trilateration, the device always provides the shortest route possible. Other details such as speed, distance etc are stored and can be added on to the map. Coming to the components:

The first and the foremost unit is the tracking device. It is along with a GPS or GSM modem which helps you connect with the internet and download information. To relay and replay all such incidents, the fixed base station has been setup. These stations have the tracking devices and thus can pinpoint the vehicles very accurately. Lastly, the database houses all the information within itself which can be retrieved by the user to see what route he took the last time or which place did he visit the previous time.

Now that you know how a tracking device works, it is easier to imagine the functioning of the device and how nicely it works in order to maintain the correct position of the vehicle.
