Hippo Hunting Safari
Hippo was initially called as a sea cow by the initial explorers who saw it and hunted it due to lots of meat and fat. An African adult
hippo can weigh about 2 tons
but don’t be under the mistaken belief that they can run 20 kilometers per hour with their ivory tusks measuring about a metre and a half in length.
Sadly, due to its attitude, the hippos have caused more human deaths than crocodiles. They have even attacked boats canoes and humans who venture out in their territory. However if you respect their territory they won’t trouble you and simply float in the water.
Hunting hippos
is quite simple. 90% of the hippos killed are shot from around 50 yards away when they are in the water. They select a bull and then goes up to the river bank to wait for it to lift its head from the water and then shoots it and then the task is done.
The dead hippo floats to the water’s surface within half an hour. Next, at an appropriate time when other hippos are not around, it is pulled to the bank. Usually the shot is fired at the brain, because after you target the brain, you don’t have to worry about the animal is dead or not. The best spot to target is the area between two eyes. Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana are the countries you must visit for hippo hunting safaris. Even South Africa is a good place for safari, it is costlier than other places.
