How to Care For a New Tattoo
Introduction
Now that you have just had that new tattoo done and its slightly tingling from the gun. The smells of the ink, the petroleum jelly, and the anti-septic solution used by your artist to clean your skin are still obvious. These are some elementary steps to allow your tattoo heal properly in order to look beautiful.
Things Needed
- Anti-bacterial Soap
- A Clean Cloth
- Moisturizer
- Anti-septic Ointment
Steps
1. Once the artist has completed the tattoo they will wrap it in either plastic wrap or a paper towel and medical tape. Let it remain for nearly an hour. It will prevent the blood from oozing a lot, protect your clothes, upholstery, etc. till you reach home.
2. As soon as you reach home, uncover and clean the tattoo softly, with an antibacterial soap and a clean cloth. Soak the cloth in warm water and scrub the soap onto the cloth. TAP the soap and water on the tattoo. AVOID rubbing as it can hurt and can destroy the tattoo. Tap the area dry and keep it open.
3. Before going to sleep, apply an anti-septic ointment on the tattoo. Use enough to cover the area around the tattoo in a thin shiny layer. Do it again after bathing in the morning. Pat the tattoo with soap and water, but don’t rub.
4. As the tattoo begins to heal and dry, a scab will be formed and cause itching. Avoid scratching or pealing away the scabbed portions. This can lead to improper healing of the tattoo and ultimately your tattoo will look ugly and will have to be redone. Let the scab fall away naturally.
5. Wear loose fitting clothing so as to prevent irritating the tattoo. If you irritate the area, it may be uncomfortable or very painful. It can also hamper the healing of the tattoo properly and can even lead to foliculitus if your artist had shaved the area before drawing.
6. Put on a thin layer of moisturizer 2 times a day to ease dry skin and itching.
