How to Run Fast

Speeding up comes as natural to anyone as breathing. It is all about concentrating all your energy into your legs and making them move as fast as you can. Do that and you have your top speed. Simple, or is it? Well to begin with, the speed that a person can travel at is determined by either the number of steps he takes in a fixed time or the distance he covers in each step while running. More often than not, it is a combination of both these factors that brings out the top speed of any individual.

To keep it simple, let us just consider the steps taken in a fixed time. By a lot of research, it has been concluded that 180 steps per minute is the ideal number. If you can manage to achieve this number without compromising your stride distance, you’ve attained your top speed. Now in order to reach this number, you need to undergo an intensive training. This number may appear quite ordinary to you, but believe me, 90 steps per leg is no joke.

Also, once you’ve attained 180 steps in a minutes time, the limiting factor becomes your stride length. To maintain this length, you need to train yourself in terms of strength and endurance levels. A person may be taking the same number of steps in a minute as you are, but what will differentiate between you two, in the event of a marathon would be the difference in stride length between his and yours. In order to get an idea of what would be an ideal stride length, multiply your stride rate with the time you wish to finish a race in. Divide the distance of the race with the product of the above. The answer would be your ideal stride length. If you can achieve these two factors, you definitely stand a good chance in competing and winning any marathons. So train hard and gear up for a good finish.
