How to Shrink External Hemorrhoids

Today hemorrhoids are common amongst people because of unhealthy lifestyle choices. People cannot maintain good health because of work pressures. Inability to take care of health causes various health problems, with hemorrhoids being one of them. It is a problem where the veins linking the anus and the rectum are inflamed thereby forming a pad of tissues. They can cause itching, inflammation and pain. At times, this problem can cause embarrassment to patient when he is at work or in a public place. In extreme instances, hemorrhoids may cause bleeding. This problem is global and has caused pain and unease to millions. The main causes of hemorrhoids are digestive problems, high blood pressure (hypertension), unhygienic personal care etc. It can afflict pregnant women, kids and may also be hereditary.

There are 2 kinds of hemorrhoids based on their placement at the anus. Those situated within the anal opening are known as internal hemorrhoids. It is difficult to detect them due to absence of pain receptors internally, and hence the patient is unaware of their formation. External ones are situated right outside the anal opening and can be easily detected, since they turn painful right from the start. Because of wrong dietary practices, the stools turn hard and damages the soft and tender internal mucosal lining of the anus and the rectum that play a part in absorption of vital nutrients. This leads to anal fissures that worsen the hemorrhoids. Because of high blood pressure there may be mild to intense itching, inflammation and pain. High blood pressure can also lead to bleeding from the hemorrhoids, thereby putting the patient in the awkward situation.

There are numerous methods of shrinking the external hemorrhoids. The primary principle to be followed when shrinking is to soften the stool and eliminate pain while defecating. It will relieve the irritation of the hemorrhoids, thus shrinking them slowly. To soften stool, eat a diet high in fiber, present in whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Hike the daily consumption of water, as it softens the stool, the anal tissues and blood vessels. The anal part must be kept dirt-free in order to lessen bacterial infection, ultimately reducing itching and inflammation. Also avoid spicy and junk food, alcohol and smoking to promote the shrinkage of the external hemorrhoids.

Use good quality creams and ointments having properly balanced chemical composition, which is according to your need. You can prepare an ice pack from a piece of even, neat cloth. Place it on the external hemorrhoids. As soon as the cold treatment is over, sit in a sitz bath filled with warm water. It will lessen the size of the external hemorrhoids.

Irrespective of the remedy used to shrink the external hemorrhoids, always seek medical advice.
