	How to Treat Male Baldness

Male baldness is associated with a lot of things. For some it is a sign of wisdom and for some it is nothing but a stigma, for which they will leave no stone unturned in order to obtain a satisfactory cure. In the current medical scenario, two chief drugs are being used in the USA for treating this condition, the drugs being Propecia and Rogaine. The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States has only approved of these two drugs in the country and hence they are being used widely.

The current molecule that is being used in the medical practice for curing male pattern baldness is propecia. It comes as a pill and is to be taken only once a day for a substantial amount of time. Its mechanism of action is quite simple. It stops the synthesis and secretion of the hormone, dihydrotestosterone, which is believed to be the root cause of baldness. A prescription drug, it has been clinically tested and found to be effective in not only stopping the progressing baldness but also helping in regrowth of hair.

The other drug, minoxidil, which is sold under the name, Rogaine, is a solution which needs to be applied on the scalp twice a day. There have been many reports where it has been proved that Rogaine has actually increased the length of the hair in the process of treatment for baldness.

Having said that, many people still prefer Propecia to Rogaine when it comes to growing one’s hair. This is seen more in males where testosterone levels can inhibit the growth rate of hair and even cause baldness. Regular use of either of these medicines or for best results, using both the drugs at the same time helps in eliciting regrowth of hair as well as stoppage of baldness.
