Baseball in countries like USA is one of the most followed sports paralleling with others like NBA etc. Many children idolize sportsmen and some even give these players Godly status. Although those who have been following this sport will know every possible detail of this game, beginners may have trouble following the game and those trying to get better need a lot of on the field and off the field training. Here are some tried and tested pointers, which may help those who are inspiring to be good batters.

For a batter, at the outset, there are two main objectives. One is to get a good contact with the ball, and the other, to run bases and help other players of his to do the same. For the former, one should develop a good art of observing the pitcher’s actions. Most of the time, by looking at the swing and the movement of the arm of the pitcher one can anticipate the type of pitch. You should also try and get tips from those who are quite good and experienced at this game. Experience always helps, and don’t be shy in learning from others.

Strikes are those pitches that you couldn’t connect. Three strikes and you’re out. Ball is totally opposite. They are incorrect pitches, either too far or too low etc. Three such balls and you get to run a base. For obvious reasons, it is always better to have less number of strikes and more of balls so as to be under lesser pressure and put the same on the pitcher as well.

Coming to the other part of the batter’s responsibility, i.e. base running, he should make sure he has enough time to cover the required ground. Hitting far above the ground can give him the required time as can hitting in an empty region. The batter should always weigh his option and use his mind on the field to get the best out of him.
