When deciding on a health insurance policy, understand the meaning of various terms like the premium to be paid, the liability limits, the cover offered, the policy limits, benefits, deductibles, and terms of insurance. You also need to understand other terms like: co-insurance, co-payments, out-of-pocket expenses, exclusions, lifetime maximum, waiting period, coordination of benefits, grace period etc. The selection of doctors, specialist care, pre-existing conditions, emergency and hospital care, regular physicals and health screenings, prescription drug coverage, obstetrician/gynecologist coverage, costs and miscellaneous benefits should also be taken into account. Find out the policy’s cover for planned hospitalizations as well as emergency care.

You should also look at the other factors like: the process of handling physical examinations and health screenings, vision care, and dental services, care and counseling for mental health, rehabilitation services for drug and alcohol abuse, existence of ongoing care for chronic and long-term diseases, coverage for physical therapy and rehabilitative care, coverage for nursing home, home health and hospice care as well as for alternative medical care like acupuncture, any coverage for experimental treatments and therapies etc.
