Internet Safety Tips For Kids

With the usage of Internet rising rapidly, children form the bulk of the users. Kids use Internet for chatting and meeting people. However, they also face serious threats from the unknown strangers, who use the benefit of anonymity. Of this, sexual offences form the bulk of crimes committed against kids. If your child is surfing the Net, take the following safety tips to protect them against child sex abusers.

A sex offender resembles a normal person and could be somebody like the old man next door or your kid’s teacher. You may not be aware of their sexual proclivities and there is no way you can keep these people away from your locality. But you can make your kid aware of the dangers that are present on the Internet. Online chat rooms are the places where these sex offenders lurk. They prey on the innocence of the child by asking their personal information like sex and then pretend to be a young kid of the same sex as your kid. Make your kid aware of these tips to protect them from these predators.

- Do not provide your personal details like name, address, telephone no etc. to a stranger you have met online. If the person on the other side is a sexual offender, they can track you down and meet you in person without your parents’ knowledge.

- Do not send your photos to an online stranger without your parents’ permission.

- If a person gives you goose bumps, stay away from them. If an email or message makes you uncomfortable, show it to your parents.

- Inform your parents or take them along while meeting somebody in person. Try to arrange for such meeting in the public place.

- If you read any information on the Internet that makes you uncomfortable, inform your parents immediately.

- Always remember, most of the online people are not necessarily telling the truth. This is to ensure you look at them as friends.
