Managing Cat Litter
Unless your cat can spend a lot of its time outdoors, then keeping a cat implies managing the cat litter. It is not the most pleasant task but it is a mandatory job because it keeps you and your cat healthy. Proper management of the cat litter means your cat will have fewer accidents when not in the litter tray and reducing the cat odors around the house. To ascertain you are managing the cat litter properly, follow these few tips.
Smells
The smell of a litter box is not fragrant either to you or to your cat. Cats have more sensitive noses than humans, so it is essential to regulate the odors by changing the cat litter daily. You can also control the odors further by changing the litter entirely each month and disinfecting the litter tray, irrespective of the type of litter used. While shopping for cat litter don’t go for the scented cat litter, because it fails to mask the cat odors entirely. Also it can demotivate your cat from using the litter tray.
Getting Rid of Cat Litter
Proper disposal of the litter is essential to reducing the bad smells. Remember, lot of cat litter cannot be flushed down the toilet, especially the clumping one as it will cause an increase in size, thus choking the sewer systems. Even if it has been stated on the pack that cat litter is flushable, look at optional methods of disposing it.
If we omit flushing then the next best choice is trash. The smells will be simply carried across the yard close to the trash. If possible, throw the cat litter in a separate trashcan. One way to reduce the odors is to put the cat litter in double bag and seal it to avoid the smells from escaping.
Another way is to go for a litter disposal system, consisting of a sealed trashcan with filters to trap any smells attempting to escape. It is easily available at any pet store. It is immaterial whether you opt for the simple method or the advanced one, proper disposal of used cat litter will prevent the cat smell from flooding your home.
