Mattress cleaning methods
One of the most common question asked, is
how to clean a mattress
and keep it smelling fresh. Of course, preventing it from getting dirty is the best bet, but accidents can and more often do occur, especially if your house has children and pets.
Let’s start with keeping a new mattress from becoming worn out quickly. Mattress protectors and bags are available in most of the stores dealing with household articles, especially mattress dealers. Bags are ideal for keeping the mattress free of dust, mites and allergens as they form a protective envelope.
Now’s the tougher part. Cleaning a soiled or stained mattress is no walk in the park. A meticulous vacuuming of the mattress and box spring can eliminate dust and mites. A soiled mattress, however, needs to be rid of the moisture, which can be absorbed by towels etc. Use a mild soap, detergent or upholstery cleaner. Use dry suds so as to avoid the mattress becoming more wet. The technique is simple. Mix a mild detergent with little warm water with a wisk or a beater. Remove the froth, and clean the mattress with the remaining solution. Apply it with a brush to remove stains and odor, and leave it in the sun or under a fan to dry. Although it’s the longest part of the procedure, your involvement is the least.
Who doesn’t prefer a mattress, which smells fresh, and clean?
Since we spend a lot of time in bed, keeping it new requires an effort. Once it is clean and dry, use a good mattress protector, which is the ideal choice. Baking soda is an effective alternative, which must be sprinkled on the surface. Rub it lightly and uniformly and then vacuum it out, leaving the mattress fresh and scented. You could also keep the sheets as clean as possible; by regularly changing them, and by placing few bounce sheets in between which will extend the freshness.
It is not possible to completely avoid accidents, when kids or pets are around. Sometimes, breakfast in bed may not be the most comfortable experience either. So it’s always better to be aware of a few tips, which can help in keeping your investment as fresh as ever.
