Minnesota Camping Tips

Many people love camping. The number of people who consider camping as one of their main hobbies has risen drastically. While some people love going camping to different places every year, others go to their favorite location for camping every year. One of the places that have become camper’s attraction is Minnesota, due to various possibilities it offers.

Minnesota has plenty of lakes and varied terrain, making it attractive to campers. The northern part of the state bordering Lake Superior is the ideal choice for camping. The north shore drive along Lake Superior is one of the best locations in the United States, especially in autumn. This route has a few state parks with hiking trails, wolf interpretive centers and kayaking. The 10,000 lakes in the state makes it an ideal fishing destination.

The lakes are spread across Minnesota and there are few recreational areas. These areas are best for camping in Minnesota due to huge state parks along with private and federal campgrounds. Though most of these recreational areas are concentrated in the north, south has its own attractions. There are trout streams and high river bluffs. The southern portion of Minnesota has 2 state parks with rock climbing and cliff diving into the St Croix River facilities. Various festivals are held in the beautiful river towns here.

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) is the highly popular Minnesota camping. This area prohibits the entry of motorized vehicles, boats. You can leave your possessions at various drop off points and go for a canoe ride and camp in this area. The BWCA is fitted with many maps outlining the location of the pit toilets, campfire rings and picnic tables. You have to get your own supplies. This type of camping is not meant for beginners. This area is quite difficult to access but is worth the effort due to gorgeous woods and lakes.

The metropolitan area has some camping grounds. The city of Minneapolis has plenty of lakes. You can enjoy a night out under the stars and spend the busy day in the city. Hence for any avid camper, a visit to Minnesota is a must.
