Pros and Cons of Cotton Pillows

Cotton pillows have been popular for ages. Should you get one? Let's consider their important pros and cons.

Pros

Cotton pillows are made of 100% cotton. So, they are very firm, while being slightly soft. They retain their shape and loft / height quite well, leading to at least average support all  night long.

Due to their solid firmness and good loft / height, they are good for back and side sleepers.

Cotton provides good breathability and absorbency to control a person's sleeping temperature. Cotton pillows are entirely free from allergens, artificials and chemicals. And they can be easily cared for as they can be washed in machine. They are economical, and usually cost below $30.

Lastly, unlike various other kinds of pillows, they don’t have smell or off gassing as such.

Cons

Some people say cotton pillows are very hard and, so, uncomfortable for the head and ears. These pillows are right for stomach sleepers since they require softness.

Their support and comfort is lost if they become swollen or if the cotton shifts to one end of the pillow. Also, they become flat and sag a lot after some time.

Cotton pillows are heavy. As a result lugging the pillow or making the bed quite harder. Also, they can harbor dust mites as they tend to hold moisture.

Lastly, their durability is just average.
