Running Shoes Selecting Tips
For people who are into running, sports or any type of physical fitness activities, having a good pair of
running shoes
are a must. Your shoe should not fit you but also be appropriate for the type of running and training that you do. Do not go for a shoe by its mere look. There could be hordes of shoes in the market that would easily meet your needs while being right for you. We cover some general tips to finding the right shoe for your foot.
You need to decide as to whether the shoes will serve as track shoes or trail shoes. There is a massive difference between running on a plain surface and running on the rocky, muddy terrain. Your feet will touch the ground for more than 1600 times for each mile that you cover. Choosing the wrong footwear will make your running more uncomfortable besides leading to injury over a period of time.
To decide on the right shoes, you have to go for the fit as well as biomechanics or pronation. Pronation is the way your feet move naturally when they come in contact with the ground. You can determine this by looking at the direction in which your footwear wears out after prolonged usage. If your shoes wear out first on the outer edge, you tend to underpronate. If they wear out more on the inside, go for a shoe for overpronators. Ask a person who has experience to see you from behind to determine your pronation before purchasing a shoe.
Depending on the amount of pronation, there are four varieties:
1.
Neutral Pronation, should go for shoes having a right balance of stability and flexibility.
2.
Under Pronation cannot have a good range of foot movement, and hence need shoes with good cushioning and flexibility
3.
Moderate Over Pronation should opt for Stability Trainers
4.
Severe Over Pronation must go for Motion-control trainers.
Once you have decided on the degree of pronation, your shoe choice should be determined by it.
You should also consider the way shoe fits your feet. If you feel comfortable, your fingers are not cramped and there is ample space between your largest toe and the front of the shoe. It should feet your heel snugly.
Follow these above tips to ensure your running is enjoyable and injury free.
