Simple Remedies for Stinky Dogs
Dogs
do have a very bad smell, despite giving them a daily bath. At time, dogs suffering from foul odor lick themselves excessively, and in fact tugging out their hair. They frequently lick themselves and their breath stinks after they do it.
There are various causes why a dog smells horrible and plenty of easy cures to deal with it. But in certain instances, you might have to visit the vet to treat and eliminate the dog’s foul smell. It will be an expensive procedure, as you will have to pay for the vet's fee and the medicated shampoos or soaps that you will be recommended.
Normally a dog doesn’t stink. But if he does, it could be due to improper functioning of the sebaceous gland, caused by insufficient fat in his diet. Increase the fat content in his diet by providing him with extra fat like chicken skin, bacon grease, butter or a tablespoon of vegetable oil; if animal fat is not available.
Liquid chlorophyll is an effective cure for smelly dogs.
Add 1-2 tablespoon of liquid chlorophyll in your dog’s water daily to provide the chlorophyll to their body. Chlorophyll has little mint taste and many dogs prefer its taste in water. Liquid chlorophyll keeps the dog's breath fresh all the while and travels through its body and helps in digestion, purifies its blood and aids in counteracting smells radiating from your dog. Once it travels through your dog's body, it defuses the smell of its pee and poop.
Another cause for the bad odor of a dog is the pH inequity on the skin, within the digestive tract, the mouth or the ears. An easy remedy to counteract this skin inequity is to give it a vinegar rinse and ladies douches in order to remove the smell. The acidity helps in restoring the pH balance. Add vinegar to water and bathe your dog in it or few weeks. You can also use ladies douches instead of vinegar for the same purpose.
One more easy cure for smelly dogs is as follows: In a big container/sink/tub, blend together 1 quart hydrogen peroxide, ¼ baking soda and 1-2 tablespoons of dish soap. The sponge it on the affected parts of the dog very carefully so as to prevent the liquid from entering the dog's eyes. Allow it to wet for at least 5 minutes and then wash off. Now shampoo your dog using his normal shampoo and wash again.
Another effective remedy for the problem is to blend together water, hand cream and Listerine in a spray bottle and squirt it on the dog’s coat and massage it onto their skin. As Listerine is anti bacterial, it removes the odor, the hand cream acts as a conditioner, making the hair glossy and skin soft.
The aforementioned remedies are enough to eliminate the bad smell of your dog.
