Skipping Ropes For Fitness
Those pursuing a healthy lifestyle will know the importance of skipping in their exercise regimen.
Skipping
is a very simple yet effective cardio vascular exercise, which not only warms your body for the more rigorous training but also builds your stamina, develops a sense of timing and can increase your strength remarkably. For these many reasons, even boxers use skipping as a tool to warm up prior to their more intensive boxing training.
A boxer will ideally skip for about 15 – 30 minutes depending on his fitness levels. During this session, he will continue to keep his muscles working extra by varying his skipping technique such as jumping twice in the same swing or increasing the speed of skipping suddenly for a short time or even moving back and forth.
But for beginners, you needn’t experiment with such moves from the start. Maintain a rhythm initially and keep it up. You may face the problem it getting stuck couple of times which will avoid you to keep up the pace. But keep at it and soon you’ll be skipping continuously for minutes together. Give yourself breaks initially and as days pass, try to increase your skipping time gradually. This will help in increasing your endurance levels. Once you are confident with the basic technique ask your trainer for complex moves.
Coming to what type of
skipping ropes
are available, there are basically 3-5 types of ropes. Leather ropes are generally more expensive and so are used mainly by professionals like boxers etc. Nylon ropes on the other hand are relatively cheaper and thinner. Another type is made of a wire with PVC sheathing. The wire gives added speed thus increasing the intensity of a workout. You can buy a rope with heavier handles thus working your forearm muscles as well.
Skipping ropes
are easily available and you could try your local sports store itself and you’ll have at least couple of options to choose from. Make sure you include skipping in your daily routine to get the best results.
