Suggested Croatia Itineraries

Before you plan on visiting Croatia to find out latest available Jadrolinija (Croatian ferry company) timetable, check if there is a boat to the place you want to visit. There are 2 schedules, the winter and summer and they may vary to some destinations. E.g. Hvar island (Stari Grad) has 5 times ferry connections per day to Split in summer but only 3 in winter.

The Costal Route As Croatia has a beautiful 1.104 miles coastline and 1185 islands choose the boat as the best way to enjoy Croatia coast. Your costal route begins from Rijeka all the way to Dubrovnik, halting at the various islands and cities. It is one of the enjoyable journeys in Central Europe. Go on Jadrolinija ferries to Dubrovnik  while halting at different cities and little fishermen villages.

If you arrive in Zagreb, spend some days there visiting museums and the historic old town, than go to the coast (There are very good bus connections to the coast). Before taking your cruises to Dalmatian coast, visit Istria , Rovinj and Porec. En route to south part of the Adriatic coast, stop at Dugi Otok (Long island) before reaching Zadar, where you can visit islands like Pag or tiny charming island Ugljan. Move on to Split to spend couple of days visiting Diocletian's emperor Split town. This town offers very frequent ferry boats (according to season) to visit islands Brac (Bol) and Hvar (Hvar and Stari Grad towns). You can also visit adjacent historic Trogir, just half an hour bus drive from Split.

Move on further from Hvar, without returning to Split to Korcula island, visiting this small town, generally called (small Dubrovnik). From there, go to Dubrovnik the ultimate destination, to complete your Croatia's journey.

Deciding  when to go

April to September is an excellent time to visit Croatia. The sea temperature in April is not suitable for swimming but there will be warm and clear skies south of Split partiularly on Hvar and Korcula islands. Hotel prices are low but the choices of hotels and camps will be limited.

May and June are the excellent months to enjoy Croatia. These months are suitable for all types of outdoor activities. Tourists have not yet arrived, prices are quite low and most of the hotels, hostels and camps are open.

July and August are the costliest months to visit Croatia The places like Krk, Istria, Rab, Bol, Hvar, Korcula and Dubrovnik are very crowded. The main reason these months are believed  to be "high season" are the extra boat lines allowing you to visit other small places and islands, away from these over crowded destinations.

September is the best month to visit Croatia. It's quite moderate, the prices are at least 30 % lower and no crowds as children go back to school. This is the time of fruits like figs and grapes. October can be very cool for camping but the weather may still be pleasant for cruising and the private rooms are easily available and reasonably priced.
