Taijiquan and Fajin
In loose terms,
Fajin implies "to issue power."
There are various clarifications for these phenomena, ranging from easy to totally mystical.
In actual terms, Fajin is a method of producing power for hitting or wrestling, particularly brief power. It is the potent power producing hitting for very brief distances. It was first introduced to the world by Bruce Lee, with his popular one inch punch. An expert of Fajin for martial use will know that Fajin brief power is the basis for martial Taijiquan.
Fajin also provides various health advantages within Taijiquan. You can perform "soft" Fajin, by letting the body to feel the mild impact for kindling the bones and increases bone density while promoting the free flow of the body's Qi. The Taijiquan practitioner is also able to locate the tension areas inside the body till it arrives at a tension area, where it will feel as though it is stuck. Then practice can be targeted to this spot in order to free it from tension, thus healing it, as spots of Qi blockage in conventional Chinese medicine can ultimately cause sickness.
From the biomechanical angle, Fajin is just a violent movement of the hips, resembling a sneeze. The power is emitted from the Dan Tien via the body and outside via the hands. While reading the principle is easy, practicing it is quite tougher as the body must be naturally relaxed before it can be achieved.
Most of the initial practice of Taijiquan is meant to relax the body as it is necessary for effective Fajin to occur. After the body reaches the basic level of relaxation, then effective Fajin practice can commence and every pose of the Taijiquan form can be performed as a brief Fajin exercise.
As Taijiquan focuses on balance, the mild, slow motion of the form must be equalized by faster, tougher motion, which is the actual role of Fajin in promoting good health.
