Tips For Buying a Laptop

Today, the market is flooded with wide variety of laptops that can leave even a technically qualified person baffled. There are hordes of machines in each price range. The most important selection criterion is to decide on the way you propose to use your laptop and your whereabouts. Before spending your money, you need to consider the following five factors to help you select the right one.

· SIZE: The size of the laptop affects two major areas of portability and monitor size. If you are always on the go, choose ultralight machine to make it easier for you to tag the machine along. But if you plan to be at your desk for a very long time, you can go for a laptop with bigger display. These heavier laptops can weigh more than three times the weight of ultralight.

· HARD DRIVE: If you plan to make the laptop your main computer, go for a machine with higher disk capacity. But if your laptop will supplement your other computer, you can go for a machine with low disk capacity. However, if you propose to download images and MP3 on your laptop, opt for a machine with bigger drive capacity.

· MEMORY: Your memory requirements will depend on the usage you plan for your laptop. For routine activities like emailing, working on spreadsheets or on documents etc. you can work comfortably with 256MB RAM. This is the minimum memory offered by many manufacturers so you do not have to spend extra. For a person working with graphics, music or any other multimedia applications, higher the RAM, better the performance.

· NETWORK CONNECTIONS: Ensure your machine comes equipped with Ethernet card and a modem to allow you to connect to the Internet from any place. You can also work on your home or office computer remotely.

· PRICE: When the laptops first came in the market, they were very expensive. But over the period of time, these prices have gone down. Today a lot of good quality laptops with advanced features are available in the market under $1,000. Besides, many manufacturers have a tie-up with the financers offering many financing options.
