Ice fishing is basically cutting a hole in an otherwise frozen water body and catching fishes during the cold weather. It is a serious matter for some, while for others, it is just another way of fishing during the cold weather. Whichever group you may belong to, here are some tips which can help you during ice fishing.

First and foremost, keep yourself warm. Cold weather is nothing that should be taken lightly. A frost bite in your toes or hands can cause you to lose your fingers and you’re your extremities should be well protected from the cold weather. Wear multiple layers of protective clothing when you go out to fish. Don’t be worried that you may end up feeling warmer than required. It is better to feel warmer than feel cold. Besides, you can always shed the extra bit of clothing in case if it becomes too uncomfortable.

Using bait for the fishes is also an aspect that should be paid attention to. Live baits can be used with gang hooks, which are nothing but smaller hooks attached to each other. this helps in making the live bait appear natural. In case you are using synthetic bait, you can use double the number of baits by using pre-tied gang hooks. They are tied with a very thin material and thus are barely visible.

Lastly, you should time your fishing when the fishes would be most active. This can be ascertained by determining the phase of the moon along with the overall weather of the area. This will help get a bite more easily.
