Tips to Get Rid of Fleas in the Yard Naturally

Introduction

Simple method of ridding your yard of fleas. This is a natural and organic method of flea control, safe for both family as well as pets. It's cheap and harmless for the environment.

Things Needed

- Diatomaceous Earth
- Throwaway breathing mask

Steps

1 Buy diatomaceous earth, found at any organic gardening shop and few home improvement stores. It is essential to ensure the bag is not designed labeled for swimming pools. It must be agricultural or food grade. Its price should be about $10. Diatomaceous earth is prepared from fossilized microscopic shells and is found naturally.

2 A breathing/dust mask is also essential; they are sold in the paint section of a home improvement store. Diatomaceous earth is harmless even if consumed, but don’t inhale it. It is used as animal feed for parasite control, in gardens, lawns and on pets.

3 If you have an access to a spreader, spread the diatomaceous earth just like any other powdered product. Or, sprinkle it with hand very quickly. Just sprinkle it throughout your yard to coat the whole yard with a light coating. The dust is safe for humans or pets, but for insects, the small particles are fatal. However, studies have proved diatomaceous earth is safe for earthworms.

4 It will simply and naturally kill fleas and ticks present live in your lawn. If necessary, you can re-sprinkle every time you mow.

5 If pets are affected by fleas, rub little diatomaceous earth on their fur to fight fleas and ticks.

General Tips & Warnings

* Is possible to use at home to kill all types of pests.

* If fleas have ventured into your home, sprinkle the dust on the carpet, let it remain for some days before vacuuming.

* Always put on a dust mask when dealing with diatomaceous earth. Though a safe product, don’t inhale it as it can give rise to breathing problems.
