Tips to Remove Whiteheads
It is easy to mistake
whiteheads for pimples,
since they both look alike. Many people apply the acne medication with the hope that whitehead will go away. But this is not true. Here we explain what whitehead is and how to treat it.
Your skin has many pores and they secrete oil called sebum. Sebum lubricates and adds moisture to your skin and thus retains the health of the skin. But when these pores are blocked, it can lead to major problems. If the pore is open, the sebum blackens due to oxidation. But if it is closed, then bacteria start thriving and keep the remains white and hence the name whitehead. It resembles the normal pimple but is different from it. The blockage of pore is also known as comedone.
To remove the whitehead,
do not squeeze or forcibly remove them without using correct tools. Squeezing and picking will break the skin and make it prone to infection and susceptible to scar. The only method to remove whitehead is by using a comedone remover. It is a simple stainless steel device and has a loop design that can eliminate the whitehead but leave the skin intact. Use this tool just after steaming the face with a hot washcloth or after a hot bath. This eases the removal of the whitehead. After the whitehead breaks the upper layer of the skin, press the loop over the whitehead and the trapped material will start oozing out. Then wash your face with warm water to remove the traces of the material.
If this method does not suit you, you can opt for the cream or gel meant to treat blackheads. These medications are also effective in treating whiteheads. They contain retinoid that hampers the development of the whitehead before it escalates into a major problem.
There is a retinoid cream or lotion meant for different types of faces. But before using any of these medications or do not prefer home treatments, it is advisable you consult a licensed dermatologist. They can recommend right treatments that are more effective.
