Tips to Travel in Car with Pets
Keeping a pet means you have to make the provision to carry it along with you while traveling. You need to be especially careful while taking it with you in your car. Though pets can be a source of joy, you need to take care of their special needs.
-
Pet Hair:
It is difficult to remove the hair from the upholstery and carpet. Getting it vacuum cleaned is futile since the fibers weave into the carpet on the floor of the car and from it into your grip. The best way to remove the hairs is to use rubber or latex gloves. There are products like Pet Sponge made from the same material. Put on a glove and wet it slightly, and run your hand over the area where hairs are present. These hairs will enter your glove easily. Wash the gloves and repeat the process. You can also buy a Pet Pad for your pet.
-
Heat:
Use a sun shield while traveling with the pet. Cars get hot very quickly and within no time, they become unbearable. An air-conditioned car reaches the temperature of 120 degrees within 20 minutes, even if you lower the windows for a few moments. During summer or on hot days the temperature can rise to 150 degrees within the same amount of time. But by putting the well-designed reflective sun shields, your car’s temperature can go down by 50 degrees.
-
Urine:
Removing the urine from the carpet is a tedious task. Pour some dry baking soda and leave it on overnight. Vacuum and repeat the process. Once you have finished vacuuming the last trace of baking soda, pour hydrogen peroxide on the area to be cleaned. Vacuum after it evaporates. This method is not enough to remove marks or discoloration but removes the smell and neutralizes the urine. For stain removal, use any carpet or upholstery cleaner.
-
Comfort:
There are many car accessories designed for pets to keep them safe and comfortable in the car.
-
Cargo Area Travel Liner:
It is the most comfortable padded liner with cushion and prevents slippage. You can put in the cargo section of your min-van to give your pet the full access to this section. They can walk on the textured fabric without any slippage or sliding. Since the rear portion of your vehicle can become hot, the breathable fabric keeps your pet very warm throughout the year.
-
Seat Covers:
Similar to liner but is smaller. As the fabric and comfort are the same, you get the same cleaning and protection.
-
Pet Barriers:
These barriers restrict the movement of your pets and enhance their safety. You can lower the windows; enjoy cooling conditions while using these barriers.
