Tips to choose an Ergonomic Office Chair

We spend 60-70% of our day, sitting at our desks in a chair. If this chair is not ergonomically designed, it can tire you out and give you lower back problems. A lot of man days are lost due to lower back pain. To cure this problem, opt for an ergonomically designed chair. It has been designed to support the spine and provide comfort to the user.

A visit to a furniture shop will give you an introduction to the range and prices of the ergonomic chairs. Since we are all created different, each person’s idea of comfort will differ and hence different chairs will cater to different types of people. But still you need to note the following points before purchasing the chair.

*Support for the lumbar region: When you sit in a chair, this region of the lower back is under intense pressure. Sitting in an ergonomic chair will provide support to the area, thus reducing the pressure and curing lower back pain.

*Depth of seat: When you sit in the chair, your lower back and hips carry the weight of the legs. If the distance between the front of the seat and the back of the knee exceeds 2-4 inches, then your back carries the bulk of your weight of the legs, causing back pain.

*Chair height: Look out for the chair whose height can be easily adjusted. You should be able to place your feet flat on the floor at about right angles to let you sit comfortably.

*Adjustable armrest: Your arms and shoulders should be relaxed when you sit in a chair. This will not strain your neck and shoulder blades.

*Availability of swivel and rollers: Having a swivel will let you turn around in your seat easily. It will prevent straining when you reach out to lift the items on your desk. Rollers will increase your mobility.

Do not pick up the first chair that you see in the shop. Look around to find the chair which gives the most comfortable feeling. This will make you feel comfortable all day long and will not strain your lower back, thus eliminating the problem of back pain.
