Trampoline Exercise Safety Tips

Obesity is one of the major health problems affecting millions around the world. Of these, a large number are children, and by 2010 more than a million children would be categorized as obese.

Many UK state schools have introduced the healthy eating principles designed by Jamie Oliver and many have kept on with the principles of healthy eating by bringing in similar policies for packed lunches and school snacks. Though all this good for fighting obesity, but exercise plays a major part in fighting this problem.

A solution (and just of the solution) is to consider types of exercise that can be performed  at home. There are many gym equipment meant for children and this might be the preferred exercise for you and your children, but if you want exercise more similar to play, then you have to choose other types of exercises. If an activity is fun, it will also keep children fit but also kindles their imaginations, promotes coordination and in specific areas: sharing and team work skills. They are all essential building blocks in learning for life.

Trampolines provide great fun and nice exercise. Actually, due to the fun aspect of a trampoline the children are attracted to it, the exercise aspect almost is ignored. The Department of Health suggests adults get at least 30 minutes of exercise daily and children get 60 minutes. It need not be in one shot and can comprise of 10 - 15 minute stints.

There is no need to join a trampoline club to benefit from your trampoline. But it is very essential  that a trampoline is always used safely. Most of this is common sense and many good sellers will inform these rules with their products, but here are some important ones.

1. Keep the trampoline on a flat soft or grassy area. Avert paved, gravel or decked parts;

2. Keep a safety zone of at least 2.5 meters adjacent to the trampoline free from obstacles. Particularly, don't ignore protruding branches;

3. Avoid using a ladder, unless absolutely essential. They can permit younger children to climb on a trampoline when you are distracted and can hurt themselves;

4. Younger children should be accompanied by adults when on the trampoline. Warn  them against trying somersaults and other tricks;

5. Most garden trampolines can handle one child at a time. Round trampolines, particularly, shove the user to the middle so if there is more than single person on the trampoline at a time, the chance of an accident goes up;

6. Safety nets are helpful accessories and enhance safety while providing parents peace of mind. But they are not, a complete safety solution and will not replace supervised play;

7. Children should mount on and off the trampoline. Many children just jump off the trampoline on the grass, leading to an injury and so should be warned against.

8. Avoid children and pets from crawling below the trampoline as it is being used. Some vendors provide a trampoline skirt that cordons off the trampoline on the underneath. This is especially popular with  dog owners;

9. Inspections of your garden trampoline frequently. Look out for:

o Stress or failure on the frame joints

o Symptoms of aging and unraveling of the fabric

o Stress or breakage of the springs

10. Trampolines are favored by adults as well as children especially after an odd glass of wine on a summer evening! However, they don't along with alcohol and so stay away from them in these situations!
