Traveling To Cape Town
The
Cape Town
in January1992 was lot different than what it is today. In those days, Nelson Mandela was in prison for instigating the colored to fight for their rights. The voting was about to be held to decide on the status of the country’s notorious racial laws. Those days were the memorable ones in the history of South Africa.
The country was completely divided on the issue of the apartheid. Since Cape Town is the most liberal city in South Africa, many residents were optimistic that a ‘No’ would finish off the issue of apartheid and the country could start progressing. But in the North the people held the contradictory view. The AWB were marching with their swastikas and the people believed that a ‘No’ vote could cause civil war.
But 13 years later, the situation changed completely. The Cape Town became a place for a real family holiday. Fine food and wines were easily available and the hotel spa offered various treatments. Many adventure tour companies offered climbing expeditions to Table Mountain. Besides there were many things to keep kids entertained.
Cape Town
has changed for better. Growth and development have been carried out nicely and artistically. The city is livelier and the rate of employment has shot up. This has attracted hordes of unemployed people here to look for work. But the only problem is that most of the things that people in the developed world take for granted are still elusive to the South Africans.
Today as a part of the world community and not being treated as an outcast by other nations, the self-esteem of South Africans irrespective of their color has improved. They are happy to see tourists coming here from all over the world.
