Uses and Benefits for Oolong Tea

Oolong tea is a semi-fermented tea, derived from the tea plant camellia sinensis. It has innumerable long-term health benefits. The only time it has harmful effects is if it is taken excessively. The best part is that oolong has just the correct amount of healthy compounds and you can drink maximum of 4 cups everyday. Also, naturally fermented is lot different from processed oolong tea due to its infusions and the latter may possess very high quantities of compounds harmful to the human body.

Oolong tea has much more concentration of polyphenol as compared to green and black tea. Since oolong tea is only semi-fermented, it merges the benefits of green and black tea. Polyphenols, are materials divided into many sub groups with various effects on the human body. The scientific term for polyphenols is tannin.

What are the health benefits of oolong tea? It has a wide range of polyphenols that provide excellent health benefits to a habitual tea drinker. One of the benefits is detoxification and the decrease in levels of triglycerides.

From ancient times, oolong tea has been extensively used in Chinese medicine. It may aid  in averting obesity. Moreover it can be a potent tool in weight loss programs when used along with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Oolong also speeds up the metabolism of fats in the body. The polyphenols present in oolong tea enhances our body’s ability to thaw triglycerides present in fats, thereby simplifying the task of excreting them from our systems.

In an experiment carried out on already obese people showed even in absence of physical exercise, the amount of body fat dramatically reduced after drinking just 2 cups of oolong tea for only 6 weeks.

Besides promoting weight loss, the tea is also effective in lessening the risks of high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, poor immunity, digestive disorders, skin problems, and severe stress.
