Uses of Camphor Blocks
Camphor
is a waxy substance that can be mined naturally or manufactured artificially. It may be white or translucent with a very intense aromatic fragrance. Since ages, it has been used as a conventional remedy and a culinary item. Today lots of people are using it for its curative powers and they usually place some camphor at hand for numerous purposes like religious functions and medicinal goals.
It is obtained from the wood of the Camphor Laurel (Cinnamomum camphora), a big tree whose origin lies in Asia and Japan, but especially in Borneo and Taiwan. Moreover artificial camphor is obtained from oil of turpentine.
Solid camphor blocks have various uses. The anti-rust features make it effective in tool chests to avert the rusting of the tools, as the vapors freed provide an anti-rust veneer.
Also it’s used in averting colds, making it very useful as a cough suppressant and topical painkiller. Since ages, it has been used with a thread around the neck, with the camphor block close to the chest or beneath the pillow while sleeping. It is absorbed by the skin, providing soothing effect, similar to a menthol and works as a sedative and antibiotic.
Camphor blocks are also effective as an insect or moth repellent because of its intense aroma. Small crystals are mixed with insect collections to avoid other bugs from damaging it.
In religious rite or spiritual practices it is burnt like a candle. There is no remains like ashes but has plenty of carbon deposits, hence it's not advisable to burn big amounts indoor.
Keep it away from small kids, as it can lead to intoxication. Go easy on the dosage amounts since artificial camphor blocks can be poisonous in large quantities.
