Vitamins For Acne
Acne
is a normal problem with teenagers. It is caused by hormonal imbalance in the body. It results from the functioning of overactive sebaceous glands found in the skin. In order to restore the internal balance and enhance the body’s immunity against bacterial attacks that cause acne, nutrients such as Vitamins and minerals are very effective.
The primary
cause of acne
is the hormonal imbalance due to blockages in the paths of hormones along with congestion of blood and lymph toxins. Treating these causes implies adopting correct treatment course for acne. It is certain that no specific Vitamin can be effective in curing acne. However, certain Vitamins play an important part in hormonal balance and can effectively treat acne by restoring balance. The Vitamins play an important part in maintaining a healthy skin and keeping it acne free. Among the various beneficial
Vitamins, Vitamin A or axerophthol (with carotenoids) and Vitamin B-complex
play an important role in skin care and acne treatment.
Vitamin A
is reputed to make the protective tissues of skin stronger. It attempts to prevent formation of acne by reducing the secretion of sebum. This Vitamin also plays a pivotal role in maintaining and repairing of skin tissue. Moreover it eliminates various toxins from the body as it is a powerful antioxidant. In fact Accutane (Isotretinoin) the most widely used acne medication is derived from Vitamin A. But large doses of this Vitamin can actually harm the skin. The topical creams etc. that contain skin drying substances like benzoyl peroxide should be avoided if undergoing Vitamin A treatments. Besides, pregnant women should avoid this Vitamin.
All the individual Vitamins of the B-Complex group have specific roles in maintaining good skin health. These Vitamins also reduce stress levels (especially Vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid) and thus play an indirect role in preventing and regulating acne (research shows stress can aggravate acne).
Vitamin B5
neutralizes hormonal imbalance, which is the primary cause of acne formation in many people. It also plays a crucial role in producing coenzyme A vital for metabolizing skin oil. This is essential because excess skin oil secretion worsens acne. Vitamin B5 also improves circulation of cells and thus speeds up wound healing. This way, it can help in curing acne.
These
Vitamins
can be taken in their natural form or as a multivitamin capsule. As Vitamin B5 may be present in lower doses in multivitamin pills, it is recommended you take an additional supplement of Vitamin B5.
