What Is A Chemical Peel

When chemicals are applied on the skin to produce injury or a "controlled wound" is known as chemical peel. The damaged skin is then stripped away to show newer skin below. This skin is generally smoother and has fewer flaws than the old skin.

There are three types of chemical peels and each one uses different chemicals.

The softest and gentlest type of the chemical peels use alpha or beta hydroxy acids. These acids are normally present in over the counter acne treatments. Some of them are, salicylic, lactic, and glycolic acids. The intermediate version contains a stronger chemical, tricholoracetic acid. The strongest version or deep peel is also called as a phenol peel.

What conditions are treated by a chemical peel treat?

Generally this procedure is done on the face, at times on the hands and neck. If there are small signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, or little sun damage, this is the proper treatment for you. Other skin flaws treated are acne scars, age spots, and freckles.

What happens?

If you select either the light or medium peels, the practitioner can do the procedure in his office. It does not need anesthesia is required and you may or may not have to take some pain medication for unease or burning sensation. Both methods will ultimately need re-treatment to obtain or retain the results. The medium peel can take some days to heal.

The deep peel - phenol peel, needs anesthesia since it is highly painful. It needs more recovery time, mostly up to a month. Moreover, the risks far exceed the benefits. The look obtained through a phenol peel can remain up to 20 years - though this need not be general.

Like any medical procedure, locating the proper doctor and checking your medical history are important. Cosmetic surgery procedures such as juvederm, are equivalent choices and should be regarded too.
