	What is a Computer Memory Card

Computer memory cards are an essential component of any computer. These come fitted with a battery, which helps in the functions of storing temporary memory as well as other aspects of inputs and outputs by the computer. The battery has a vital function of maintaining the functions and these can go on for many years. However, once these computer cards are separated from the main computer frame, they draw power solely from the battery and thus the battery life can reduce substantially. Computer cards can also play an important role in expanding the memory of the computer, which is subsequently helps in greater amounts of storage of memory.

Computer cards rely mainly on the battery for their power supply. Once they are disconnected from the main computer or if the battery has been since a long time, it needs to be replaced as the battery may have become weak over the period. But most of the computer cards do not support functions of alerting the user that the battery is low. This is especially important when the computer card has been detached from the main computer for a very long time.

PCMCIA which stands for Personal Computer Memory Card International Association have setup certain guidelines according to which these cards are manufactured and thus are also known commonly as PCMCIA cards. These cards can be fixed on a slot on the computer which has a clip to retain the card. There are hooks, which are present on either side of the computer card such that they hold on the cards securely. These cards play a major role in the functionality of any computer.
